After remaining suspended for nearly a year, talks between farmers and the Supreme Court-appointed high-powered committee will resume in Chandigarh on Friday. A 15-member delegation of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM, Non-Political) is scheduled to meet the panel. There have been no talks between the protesting farmers and the committee since March 20, 2025, following the eviction of protesters from the Shambhu and Khanauri borders. It was on January 6, 2025 that the committee members held a meeting with farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal, who was then on a hunger strike. The high-powered committee, led by Justice Nawab Singh (retd), was formed to facilitate dialogue, depoliticise the protest, and suggest possible solutions to farmers’ grievances. The other members are former Haryana Director General of Police PS Sandhu, agriculture economist Devender Sharma, and Professor of Eminence at GNDU, Amritsar, Ranjit Singh Ghuman. Baldev Raj Kamboj, Vice-Chancellor of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, is a special invitee. Confirming the development, SKM (Non-Political) leader Kaka Kotda said the delegation would seek clarity on whether any progress had been made towards framing laws or policies ensuring a legal guarantee on MSP and addressing other agricultural concerns. “Besides meeting the committee, the 15-member delegation from various states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, will also meet MP Charanjit Channi, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Processing,” Kotda said. “The committee had recently recommended a legal guarantee for MSP and other measures to safeguard farmers’ interests. We will ask the status of the report. Only after the discussion will the further course of action be taken,” he added
