A day ahead of appearing before the Akal Takht over his “golak” (donation box) remarks, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday put the spotlight on the issue of the missing 328 Guru Granth Sahib “saroops”, claiming that 169 had been traced during the ongoing probe. He was addressing Aam Aadmi Party function here organised to pay tributes to 40 “Muktas” during the Maghi Mela. Mann said the special investigation team (SIT) found 169 missing saroops at Rasokhana Nabh Kanwal Raja Sahib (a religious place) at Majara Nau Abad village near Banga in Nawanshahr district, adding that the records existed for only 30, which were issued to two gurdwaras located at Dosanjh Khurd and Majara Nau Abad. “Of the 169 saroops found, there was no record of 139. Even the ones marked were meant for other gurdwaras. No agency, neither the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) nor those who managed these, had proper documentation,” he said, adding that the responsibility of printing the saroops lay with the SGPC. The Chief Minister said his government would hand over or install the saroops wherever the Akal Takht or the SGPC wanted. “This is not an achievement; this is our duty. If our Guru is not safe here, what else can we expect,” he said. Earlier, Mann offered prayers at the historic gurdwara here and paid homage to the 40 “Muktas”. “People have gathered here not just to listen to politics but to bow to Guru Sahib,” he said. The CM said “former rulers” were now “eyeing their turn again”. He claimed that the AAP government had provided jobs, ensured uninterrupted power supply and would soon cover families under a Rs 10-lakh insurance scheme. Besides, he announced an honorarium of Rs 1,000 per month to women in the next Budget. Mann said, “We are with you and will remain with you. Let Punjab move forward, our youth need dignity, work and hope. We are recruiting over 10,000 youngsters in the state police.” The CM targeted SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal on various issues, including the police firing at Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan during the SAD-BJP government. Without naming PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, he targeted him, saying the Congress was riddled with factionalism. Besides Mann, former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, several Cabinet ministers and AAP MLAs were present on the occasion. The CM’s mother, Harpal Kaur, was also present on the stage. Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal gave the event a miss. Addressing the gathering, AAP state president and Cabinet minister Aman Arora said the government was committed to eliminating drugs, while Sisodia urged the crowd to give Mann one more term (in 2027). The rally was attended by a large number of people, though hardly any women were present. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan was not present at the function but paid obeisance at the gurdwara. He said, “I have to go to Delhi.
